The Courage to Change the Way We Lead | Honoring IPP James Casiño

Every chapter of progress has someone who is willing to say: “Maybe there is another way.”

For JCI Baguio, our Immediate Past President James Casino helped begin an important shift in how we viewed leadership.

At a time when it was easier to simply follow old patterns, James stood for a chapter where leadership would be less about personalities, politics, or who had the strongest influence—and more about empowering the members entrusted to lead today.

He reminded us that respecting our elders and honoring those who came before us does not mean surrendering the chapter’s direction to them.

Experience should guide. It should not dictate.

Tradition should give us roots, not prevent us from growing.

And leadership should never be about protecting political interests, controlling the next generation, or deciding whose voice matters based on seniority.

James helped create space for something different.

A JCI Baguio where younger leaders could make decisions. Where members could question old practices. Where Presidents were trusted to actually lead. And where the chapter could evolve without forgetting where it came from.

That shift did not happen overnight.

And what we are accomplishing today did not begin with us.

Someone had to start opening the door before the rest of us could walk through it.

To our Immediate Past President, James Casino, thank you for having the courage to challenge what needed challenging, for trusting the next generation of leaders, and for helping start a transition that we continue to build on today.

Our recent successes belong to many hands and many generations—and yours is undeniably one of them.

Leadership is not about creating followers who obey you. It is about creating leaders who no longer need to be controlled.

Thank you, IPP James, for helping JCI Baguio move forward.

You helped start the shift. It is now our responsibility to keep it moving.
